The book starts out calmly enough. Everyone that is with Charlie Travers are resting up on Sanctuary. It was nice to have a place to actually rest and to top it off, they were on an actual planet. Yet, they all knew that they had danger ahead of them. They still need to take their fight against the Anguilar further, but to do so means they’re going to have to add more firepower to their ships.
Lenny has six of these huge former “zoo” ships that had previously been used to kidnap different species from different planets and take them to zoos for the Anguilar’s viewing pleasure. Lenny, a AI, found a way around his programming and since all the “zoo” ships were captained by copies of himself, it wasn’t hard to pass that programming escape to the other ships. Now that he’s got a team that can fight against the Anguilar, he’s going to marshal his small fleet to do whatever it takes to defeat the Anguilar. But, it’s going to take a whole lot of everything.
They plan first to find an Anguilar supply depot where they can go in and steal the guns they need to place on these six ships now called “*Liberators*”. The plan won’t be easy and it could mean the end before they even get started.
Charlie has been designated as the leader of this terrorist band as they have been labeled by the Anguilar. The Anguilar don’t yet consider them much of a threat even though this was the group that forced the Anguilar off Strada, home planet of Laranna, Charlie’s girlfriend. The Stradans were grateful for Charlie’s successful help, but they had no idea what was in-store for them.
Yet, Charlie’s small band was somehow very efficient in what they were doing. Even though Charlie didn’t feel he should be in-charge, he was and he seemed to come up with some very good plans. They had succeeded in getting the new weapons for their Liberator ships and were busy outfitting them when word came of something terrible, almost beyond comprehension.
Brazzo, a Peboktan, was Charlie’s engineer and to Charlie, a very strange alien. He looked like a bug, a huge bug, but he also had a lot of technology covering parts of his body. He was a cyborg and that was due to a previous injury he had sustained, but at least he was alive. He had came in very helpful with Charlie getting the Liberator in fighting shape and organizing this small band of fighters. Then they found out Brazzo’s home planet, Peboktan, had been completely destroyed! That shouldn’t be possible.
Yet, as more information came to be known, it became a fact. Charlie and his group went to check this out themselves only to find rocks and dust where once a planet existed with millions of inhabitants. They did find a few miners left on an asteroid, but that might be the only remaining Peboktan’s in this galaxy. Word had come that the Anguilar had a new weapon in the form of a ship called the *Nova Eclipse* and it was like nothing previously created in this galaxy. It was, simply put, a planet killer!
So, Charlie said they had to destroy it! Just for what this ship could now do was reason enough to get it away from the Anguilar, but they also found out its next target was Strada! They had to do something. That something would involve numerous deaths to those around Charlie, but it had to be done and it definitely wasn’t going to be easy.
So, a very exciting book with some added humor. Charlie Travers is a human and he’s always saying things about Earth TV shows which no one not from Earth would understand. He’s also not your hero type but he’s in a position that almost makes him take up that role since there’s really no one else to do so. While this book does kind of tie things up, the Anguilar Empire is still there so more will be coming in book 3, “Legacy of Empire”, now available on Amazon.
