Legacy of Empire

This series hasn’t actually been one of my favorites. It’s kind of strange with a weird group of characters, mostly aliens. Charlie Travers is the main character although he didn’t choose that role. He’s also now the de-facto leader of the resistance group acting as “General” although he barely finished college ROTC and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Reserves back on Earth.

As you should know by now, Charlie isn’t on Earth any more. He and a number of others, including several strange aliens, were captured by a “zoo” ship built by the Kamerians. The Kamerians was a race that lost the first Galactic War with the Anguilar coming in and taking up their absence. The Anguilar aren’t much better than the Kamerians, but since the war just about devastated every other civilization, there was and is no one to stand up to them. Except for Charlie Travers and his diverse group of resistance fighters.

It wasn’t too long ago that the Anguilar built a dooms-day weapon that actually destroyed the Peboktan home world. The resistance has five Liberator-class starships or former “zoo” ships that have been outfitted with various weapons and they can hold their own against Anguilar warships, but not if they encounter a fleet. The resistance also has troops gathered from various civilizationas against the Anguilar, but no real way to transport and protect those troops if they were to attempt to conquer an Anguilar stronghold. What they need are more starships/warships.

They had thought to capture some Anguilar cruisers that were in dry-dock just being finished. They had received intelligence about several such ships that seemed to be ready for the taking if they could stealthly board the docks and crew these cruisers. Everything was going well until it wasn’t. They found that what was supposed to be easy pickin’s turne out to be a huge trap! Someone with the resistance was tipping off the Anguilar about their plans and most of them that escaped were lucky to do so.

Now back on Sanctuary, they had to regroup and come up with more plans on how to win this war with the Anguilar if it could be won. One of the ideas floated around was to go seek the Fillians who was a race of people out far beyond the normal boundaries of the known galaxy. They were at the end of a hyperspatial-tunnel with only one entrance and one exit. Their end was said to be heavily mined and guarded with extraordinary warships the Fillians built by the thousands. Surely they could afford to loan this resistance group some if the proper introductions were made.

So, Charlie and his group of closest friends boarded the *Liberator* and started the long, long trip out to Fillios. What they meet there is just what they expected, but it’s not the answer to the problems they have back in the Anguilar empire. Still, they get some very vital information that will take them even further from Sanctuary and might not pay off in the long run. It might also get them all killed. Charlie Travers finds out that a certain Kamerian Bounty Hunter, name Seraph Nix, has his bounty and she always gets her man! As if Charlie didn’t have enough troubles already!

I’m going to continue with this series since this book has made it much more exciting than the previous books. I also think there’s going to be some involvment around Earth, but I’m not sure Earth is ready for an invasion. I don’t think Charlies resistance fighters can save Earth, but maybe they can do better than expected. Book 5, “Vanguard Wing”, is now available on Amazon.
