Star Blade

Well, this is an interesting and strange book. But it’s still worth reading and I’ll definitely continue reading the series. We start in Las Vegas with our main character Jacob Fox getting ready to give his ex-wife their signed divorce papers! Not the best way to start something, but in this case it’s probably best for both. The ex-wife is a young and up-and-comer in Las Vegas with no real interest in having children or even having a husband. Her career id definitely more important. For Jacob, a.k.a., Jake, he’s a UPS Regional Distribution Supervisor having worked his way up from just delivering packages.

So, Jake isn’t a real dynamic guy, but he’s intelligent and still very young. He’s not actually ready for what’s about to happen to him or Las Vegas or Earth, but it’s happening right now. The building his wife works in starts to shake and crumble. Off in the distance he can see what seems to be meteorites hitting other buildings in Las Vegas, only these weren’t just meteorites. They were the landing pods of large monsters looking something like a cross between king crabs and spiders. They were huge and very deadly. Their ships were destroying all the buildings in Vegas while these monsters were hacking their way through the humans trapped in this invasion.

Jake wasn’t any better prepared for what was happening than anyone else. He was trying to find a place to hide when he saw a young girl standing against a wall with one of those monsters headed her way. Jake screamed for her to run, but she was so terrified she just stood there. Jake approached her and grabbed her hand trying to pull her to safety when some guy flashed in front of him. This guy was brandishing a sword that looked like it was charged with electricity. He knew how to use it and began hacking the monsters to pieces. That temporarily save both Jake and the young girl. Jake told her to go, run to some other place while more of the monsters were approaching him and this new stranger. About that time, Jake looked up and saw on the huge monsters on the edge of a building about to jump right on his new friend. Jake tried to warm him, but didn’t get the message in time and his new friend was squashed beneath this new monster. Just before he died, he yelled out something to Jake and Jake was also knocked off his feet. While lying there he saw the sword and it was somehow drawing him towards it.

Jake finally reached the sword and grabbed it while standing. He had no idea how to use a sword but this thing seemed to be talking to him. More of the monsters approached so Jake started swinging. He was successfully in slicing parts off this enemies, but there were way too many coming after him. So, Jake did the sensible thing and that was to run. As he did, he swiped the blade in front of him and it looked like he has sliced open the very air in front of him. But, he turned to see the monsters almost upon him and in fact, one run right into him throwing him back. He landed somewhere not on Earth!

Now is where the story really takes off. Jake still has the sword with him when he comes to, but he doesn’t know where he’s at, but he knows he’s not on Earth any more. He’s in a blue forest with strange plants all around him. He finds a huge tree to settle under while the tries to gather his thoughts. He eventually hears some noises that sound like people that are looking for him. This is where he first meets Leader-ca Con-talor Swizec and Leader-zo Orkel. The former seems to be in-charge while the latter seems to be his Sergeant. After gripping the sword still in his hand, he learns that he can understand what they are saying. He asks them how they know English, but they in-turn asks how he knows their language. Apparently, the sword is proving him with the ability to know the local language.

Anyway, Lead-ca Swizec and his troops have been looking for an assassin in this very forest and that assassin had used a sword just like the one Jake was holding to commit the assassinations. Jake tries to explain what happened to him and why he’s now in possession of what they called a “star blade”. But, they still take him to see the Viceroy who will determine his innocence or guilt and act accordingly. So Jack finds himself on a strange planet with strange blue people who are definitely no humans!

Jake needs to find a way back home to Earth. Only he’s soon to find out that Earth was left behind over 3,000 years ago. Jack has jumped ahead to this future and there is no way back. His adventures are just now beginning. To his credit, Jake does some smart things and handles himself well. There definitely will be more stories about Jake and his desired to find Earth and learn what had happened to it 3,000 years ago.

The next book, “First of the Order”, is already out on Amazon. And actually there are six books so far in this series with the 6th book due in October 2025.
