Vanguard Wing

Charlie Travers of Earth has formed himself quite an army. But now he’s got to decide what to do with it. They need to hit the Auguilar Empire where it hurts but not so badly that they come after him and his army with everything.

Charlie’s army now consist of a great number of Copperell warriors who could be trained to be sterfighter pilots if they had the number of starfighters they actually needed. So, Lenny, their computer entity who started this whole thing, told them of a crashed Auguilar cruiser that contained several squadrons of Vanguard starfighters. Lenny thought most would be intact, especially with the one that had crashed and then had been frozen under tons of ice on the moon Aether. This moon also contained a remote outpost for the Auguilar so it was like Charlie’s people could just fly in and take what they wanted. Still, he believed that he had the necessary force to get this job done.

So, they attacked Aether and were very successful since the Auguilar troops on this very remote outpost wasn’t what you’d call top quality troops! They did secure a large number of Vanguard starfighters and that lead to the next problem. How do you train enough pilots to become a real starfighter squadron that could face off against the Auguilar.

Well, what they did find was another crashed curiser, a Kamerian cruiser that was very similar to the Auguilar cruisers. Inside were numerous stasis pods loaded with Kamerian crewmen. Lenny later identified from their uniform insignia, four of the pods that contained what appeared to be Kamerian pilots. Now a decision had to be made on whether or not to “thaw” these pilots out and maybe use them to help train all of Charlie’s other pilots.

They eventually did just that. The Kamerians had slept through the entire period of time where their empire rose and then was driven out while the Auguilar came in to become the ruling Empire. At first they had trouble believing anything Charlie and his people told them and they always seemed to project an air of superiority over everyone else. This annoyed a number of Charlie’s people with some never getting comfortable in trusting these Kamerians.

So now Charlie had a large cadre of trained starfighter pilots who now formed the Vanguard Wing. And he was going to us it to attack and capture the Thalassia outpost that was lightly guarded but needed to be liberated to show not only the Auguilar that his resistance force was coming for them, but to give hope to people like the Thalassians who were and had been treated as slaves for far too long.

Things never turn out as planned and Charlie should have known better. Not all the Kamerians were behind him and he let his guard down a little too much. So now he’s going to find out what a disaster could look like if he trusted the wrong people. Will his resistance army be defeated in it’s first big attempt. If so, will Earth be next on their list of places to conquer?

More will be reveled in the next book, “Home of the Brave”, now available on Amazon.
