Started a new series here. I haven’t had a lot of good luck with new series lately but that has changed with this one. I’m going to enjoy reading the rest of the books in The Voidwalker’s Chronicles since this book gave me and what’s left of humanity the reason to go on!
Major Ethan Irons used to be, well, he still is and always be a Marine, but right now and for his most likely immediate future, he’s the Chief of Security for Haven. He’s still spending his watch on the walls of Haven spotting the inevitable Revenant (Rev) trying to make its way through those walls he’s protecting. He’s a very good shot and the few he sees this day, get a bullet right through what used to be their human brain.
Not too long ago, humanity was just going about its business and so was Ethan. He and his wife, Joyce, also a Marine, had been happily married and even more happy with the birth of their son, Jamie. Life had been good back then.
Then it started happening. People who had been just fine one moment, started turning into horrible, zombie-like creatures with pale skin, razor sharp teeth, and white marbles for eyes. It just happened all of a sudden, without warning and your wife, husband or even child would get this terrible urge to start biting human within reach. Once they bit you, you became like them, walking, lifeless zombies, stumbling around looking for someone else to bite!
That had been a while back. Not everyone was turned into these zombies. Word was that some kind of virus had attacked the human race and nothing could be found to stop it except for a bullet to the brain of those that used to be living. Even then, there were reports of those just shot were getting back up and still coming after you. Ethan and those who had survived so far, formed into protective collectives one of which was Haven. It had moats, trenches and other obstacles out in front of the walls in every direction you could see. The Revs were more numerous than the normal folk by a lot now.
Haven had set up a governing council that was currently lead by a former Marine Lieutenant Colonel. Ethan didn’t know why they just didn’t have a military leader totally in-charge, but the civilians didn’t like the idea of a dictatorship in the community. There were certainly a group of civilians that thought they were above everyone else and tried to run the Council, but so far Lieutenant Colonel Cathleen Rogers kept a lid on their demands especially with Major Ethan Irons backing.
So, that was life now in the protected safe-haven. Who knew what was going on in the rest of the world and most didn’t care. It was almost a certainty that most of civilization was gone. Those in Haven didn’t even know if there were other groups like them in where in the world. Ethan knew that it wouldn’t last. The Revs had only come in small groups there were easily killed by those manning the walls, but ammo was a limited quantity in the compound and he knew there were thousands, if not millions of the Revenants roaming the Earth. He was sure that someday a massive horde was coming and they would never, ever be able to stop them!
Yet, while this was going on, far above Earth was another group of aliens that had arrived and were watching what was happening on Earth. They had the means to help these few humans but had to introduce themselves to the right person. That person turned out to be Ethan Irons. This is when he meets Commander Seraphis, the Director of the Akakie Special Operation Force!
As Ethan slowly found out, Commander Seraphis was very willing to help eradicate the Revenants on Earth and he had the means to do so if the remaining humans would agree to help. He volunteered to provide the spaceships that could eradicate all the Revenants and help find other safe-havens on Earth, which there were a few. His only ask was that the humans help him in punishing those who did this to Earth and humanity.
So, why wouldn’t humanity be willing to help this alien when he could save them from a death worse than death. Just maybe there would be enough humans left to start all over again. Ethan and Joyce wanted that to happen at least for their son, Jamie. He might have a future after all. Yet, not everything is as it should be and if you read carefully, you’ll realize that something aren’t just right.
So, I’m on to book 2, “Rise of Alliance”, now available on Amazon. I might be reading this sooner than I thought!
