Seems like these books are kind of short or maybe it’s just me reading them in about two nights. They are pretty exciting which might account for my reading at a faster pace. Still, they are enjoyable even though some of this sounds like a detective novel instead of a military science fiction story.
We do pick up from where the last book ended. Alliance Security and Intelligence Special Agents Jackson Fischer and Aniyah Eliwood are still trying to solve what happened on planet Stonemeyer and in Calibri City. A lot of Alliance Marines died in that mission but one had survived and that was Corporal Allen Sheridan.
Corporal Sheridan was something of a hero for his survival. He was also a key witness able to tell how the mission went and the fact that Sergeant Thomas had basically shot and killed their Lieutenant over a disagreement with orders. Sergeant Thomas said his orders came from Admiral Young who, at the time was the Second Fleet Commander. That made Admiral Young complicit in an arms smuggling deal that ASI Agent Fischer was now heavily involved in trying to solve. Agent Fischer did have the pleasure of arresting and handcuffing Admiral Young when he had tried to put a lid on everything that had happened on Stonemeyer. The former Admiral was now awaiting trial.
Well, he was until he wasn’t! Young was being transported to the Alliance capital city, Blue Lake City, Tuscany, under armed escort. Two Nemesis fighters were keeping pace with the Albatross shuttle that was taking Young to trial. One suddenly blew up and the other soon came under attack but the pilot managed to eject before his plane blew up! Then another shuttle approached the Albatross carrying Young. They force their way aboard, killing the security personnel above and took Young. They then loaded him into a fast modified sprinter that outran everything the Navy had into space.
So now Fischer and Eliwood are back on the trail of trying to find who took Young and where did they take him. Meanwhile others things have been going on in Alliance space that demand the attention of Fleet Admiral Gary Hunter. There had been and continues to be way too much pirating going on in Alliance and United Rim Territories (URT). Admiral Hunter was going to put a stop to that using a special project he had created called the *Legend*. This was a super secret up-armored heavy cruiser like no other in the fleet. With it, Admiral Hunter planned to go after these pirates and raiders and eliminate their operations considerably. Of course he was doing this under his own authority, but he made sure the Captain Ward, the “Legend’s” new captain knew that he was not to follow normal Navy restrictions towards civilian ships. Aboard the *Legend* would be a team of Marine Special Operators, one of which was Corporal Sheridan!
What eventually will happen is that Agent Fischer’s investigation will lead him to some kind of tie-in to these weapons smugglers which are part of the pirate and raiders operations. We will eventually see Agent Fischer and his partner Eliwood teaming up with the *Legend* and going to a place where they believe they will find Young. It certainly won’t be easy and they will be going a long, long way from known space.
Surprisingly, this series doesn’t end here. Something goes wrong and the story has to continue in book 3, “Enemy of Valor”, now available on Amazon.
