Resistance Day

This is one strange book. And even stranger is the cover that shows some guy in some kind of full-body armor. I don’t know who that could be or where he got such armor because the main character in this book is a truck driver. He also doesn’t want to fight the aliens because he knows full well that he wouldn’t stand a chance. The aliens are the Fosk-ha who have been traveling space for thousands of years. Apparently they have to stop every so often to replenish their blood supply which is where Earth humans come in. They have invaded Earth per the first book in this series.

David Osage, a.k.a. “Jackknife”, his trucker handle, has been joined by a young girl that goes by the name of Dust. She’s definitely not what she appears to be and in fact is another alien although she has been around Earth for some time. She’s actually a Dustvarian which doesn’t mean much other than she’s not originally from Earth. She does appear to be a young teenager or young lady but she says she’s much, much older due to her kind living much longer than Earth humans. That doesn’t appear to have anything to do with the story, but it might later on.

Anyway, David and Dust have been eluding the Fosk-ha by driving around the country side. They have met up with various groups, some just trying to stay alive while others are forming some kind of resistance movement. David doesn’t see any resistance lasting very long since these aliens are very much more advanced in tech than Earth. The day they invaded, they pretty much destroyed the world’s military organizations without much problem. David is trying to go back to his parent’s cabin some where in Colorado. He hopes that he can meet up with his brother, Charles and his sister, Laura at some point at the cabin. He believes they will both head that direction eventually depending on their situation.

Back to Dust, she’s something special to the Fosk-ha. She describes herself as a “Navigator”. Her species has some kind of ability to open transitional gates through which spaceships can use to cover distances that might take thousands of years to normally cover. Of course that makes her and her kind very valuable to these aliens. They have already invaded and conquered her planet leaving very few of her kind alive. This all means she’s being pursued by the Fosk-ha. Now the Fosk-ha are having other problems. It appears that there are factions within the Fosk-ha that desire to do other things or go other places so they want the Navigator for their ships. By traveling with Dust, David is right in the middle of a mess with several various groups of aliens hunting for him and Dust. Why he thinks he needs to protect her isn’t exactly spelled out.

Not only are the aliens after David and Dust, but some human groups have decided to help the aliens. So, they have to run from almost everyone now. That works only for a while until it doesn’t. They get surrounded and eventually captured by one of the Fosk-ha factions who has another Dustvarian with them. She is older and seems to be having problems doing the navigation thing. She needs Dust’s help and demands that Dust come with her on the ship that she’s traveling in. Dust has no choice but wants David to accompany her. He does and then spends some time trying to figure out how to get off the ship. Then Dust shows some talent she hadn’t shown before by teleporting them to a location where they had previously been running from some humans.

Meanwhile, Laura, David’s sister has met up with some military guys that have decided to become resistance fighters so they are convoying to Colorado which is the direction she was going. She had escaped from Chicago where she was a cop, but had to flee since she wasn’t going to work for the aliens. Charles is also trying to free himself from the aliens but his wife and child have been captured and are being held captive while the aliens are making him work for them.

So, all this book leads to is the three siblings joining up or trying to. It doesn’t seem like the aliens are anywhere near leaving Earth nor are they all that into sucking blood from humans. That not much evident in this book although it does have something to do with the story, but not much.

More will be coming in the next book, “Victory Day”, now available on Amazon.
